Tie Quilt Project

Postby m.and.m » Fri Apr 09, 2010 5:40 pm

My wife is a quilter and she's been wanting to make a "necktie" quilt. It's been a daunting project, since it takes a "boat load" of ties to accomplish this, but we have a proposal. She will make the quilt (probably queen size) and when complete, present it to J.R. to raffle or give away as he sees fit.

I'm not sure of the legality of the "raffle" idea, but since we operate on the internet, maybe it won't be that difficult. if we can clear the way, all of the proceeds will go to BWN for other projects.

So, if you have quit wearing ties, as I have, and have a "boat load" to contribute, please send them to:

P.S. Believe it or not, these turn out beautiful and are very luxurious since many, if not most are either silk or satin.

Wow... very nice idea. They could be 'silent auction' items in the Ship's Store... or something of the sort. A great way to increase traffic. Max, I don't see a down side to it. Maybe others can consider similar projects that they would donate in order to BWN to raffle off.

Sounds great! But we need ties! We'll need them all and if we get enough to make a second or third quilt, we'll put those in too. So far, you're the only one that has responded. Do you have any ties? We hit garage sales and picked up about 20 for $.75 each.

One thing, each one is totally unique.

Will the ships's store allow us to list stuff? I thought they were a third party vendor that just gave us a percentage of sales. If we can list stuff on there, we can have a silent auction with people on the board contributing nautical stuff or whatever theme we could name. It' s something to consider.

Max,
I am going to be busy over the next several days, but once things calm down, I am sure Carl has some ties he can donate for the quilt. Will try to get some sorted out and mail them to you after all the company leaves. Great Idea! 8)

The Ship's Store is currently back to being run out of my house. I was really disappointed with the several items I bought from the Cafe Press thing. I can guarantee the quality when I do the purchasing myself. So, we can do anything we want regarding the Ship's Store.... including add more items that people want.

Great, we still need ties for the quilt. Members, please scan your closets or if your spouse goes to garage sales, make them an offer on ties. I've bought them for .25 each.

The more you send us, the more quilts we can make and sell for the BWN.
