Mr. Joe S. Anton
825 Holly Avenue
Imperial Beach, CA 91932

Dear Joe,

Thank you for contacting me to share your concerns about the programs funded by the Department of Veterans Affairs. I appreciate hearing from you and welcome the opportunity to respond.

As the Chairwoman of the House Armed Services Subcommittee on Personnel, I am steadfast in my commitment to provide the best for our nation's service members and veterans. Without the sacrifices of service members and their families, our nation would not have the freedoms it enjoys today.

As you know, many veterans face great difficulties in securing benefits. Like you, I strongly believe the funding we appropriate to the VA should go directly to provide for the needs of our veterans. Rest assured, I will remain closely engaged on the issue and thank you for forwarding the article.

Again, thank you for contacting me. As your representative, I both need and value your thoughts and ideas. Please sign up for my E-Newsletter on my website, www.house.gov/susandavis, if you would like to receive updates on what is happening in Congress.

With warm regards,

SUSAN A. DAVIS
Member of Congress

Joe, this is the usual, standard form reply letter from a congresscritter. I cannot reiterate enough; if you want action from your representative, go and see him personally. Usually you will have to go through their staff first, but insust on speaking to them one-on-one.

(At least that way you'll get access to his political and legislative staff. Although it's STILL pretty much like yelling down a mine shaft!)

Just for your info She is someone I have talked with on many occasions and the letter referenced some material which she tanked me for . Also before you write off all congress people there are some up on the hill who do understand the plight and hardships of military service and its effects on the families. Her husband was a career military man and she was a dependent long before embarking on her run for congress and has aggressively worked for veterans and military issues.
While many may feel the frustration with the system and the opportunities it presents for improvements of the process as Blue water sailors lets not so quickly throw our supporters out with the bath water . I have learned from my many years of experience that through keeping an open mind and finding open avenues of communications that even adversary's may have similar concerns and those opportunities present openings where cooperation and unity to purpose can achieve a beneficial result for everyone.
Not sure who you are nor your relationship with your elected officials but mine are always welcome for a cup of coffee when they are in town. And we can always communicate on the phone because of my conditions it precludes my traveling to Washington.

Joe S Anton

I agree with Joe and Setile. Yes, many times we receive a "form" letter, but sometimes we do get a real response. I received a letter from Sen. Burr which referred to specific statements and "wording" that I used in my letter, and I also received a letter from Sen Kohl(my rep) which also was clearly a response to my letter. Did they write it or their staff? I can't answer that, but I can say someone in their office read my letters and eventually during their staff meetings my issues may made known them.
