Hi,
How about, south of "JR"?
JR calls the Springs, Southern Colorado.
Does this count?
And we lived in SOUTHERN Oklahome for 20 years.
how about that?

In an attempt to understand the intent of this poll, is it a good thing to be from the South, or a bad thing? Talk to y'all later.

Larry,
I was born in Ohio, moved to Port Hueneme Naval Base (SeaBees) where my best friends were. They were from Tx and I hung out with them so much I got a southern drawl. Every time we went home to Ohio the family would get me to say words so they could hear the southern in me. I still say Yankee words - wash is really warsh, dishes is deshes etc. We lived in Michigan for 2 years after California where the accent was still going and then we moved to FL. Didn't sound too bad there, but when I got to BAMA, honey, I can draw them words out with the best. My best friend tell me that I am southern sounding except when I get in my "business mode" then I use the Yankee voice. She also acccuses me of using big words. When I sing, I sound like a Yankee.
SO ya'll know that the South is the best place to listen to folks. You talk slow and leave off the ending of words. You add r to most names (Velmer, Almer instead of Velma, Alma), you eat exotic foods like okra, field peas, vegitable eggs (eggplants for those don't know the real name)and sit on the veranda drinking ICED TEA!
And we all know that Southern gals can do most anything!

I am from Minnesota and lived here all my life except for the time I spent in the Navy. The only other person I see this far North is Frank so I guess we are out numbered and will have to be nice to all of the southern people on this board.

A few more years in this frozen North country and then a planned move to a warmer state for retirement.
I salute you all,
Gordy

Ernie and I are from upstate NY near the Adirondack Mts. We both were born and raised in Saratoga Springs, NY. Ernie went off to boot camp at the Great Lakes, then Lakehurst for A school, we married and both arrived at NAS, Alvin Calendar Field in LA. After that he got orders to Yokosuka, Japan, served on the USS Intrepid and USS Ticonderoga. After discharge we settled back home to our roots. But we are snowbirds in the winter flying at lightning speed in our motorhome during the winter to escape the cold . We settle with the rest of the flock in Florida, Port Richey for us.

Guess its time for me to weigh in on this thread.
I was born in McMinnville, Tennessee (about 70 miles southeast of Nashville) Daddy was from Albany, Alabama, and Mother was born in McMinnville, too. Daddy's parents were from Mcminnville, also, but sometime moved to Alabama for a few years.. the reasoning has never been passed on, at least to me, and now no one around to ask why.
But Daddy, being a Church of God minister, moved us to this God forsaken land of Indiana, where I have resided most of my life in the Indianapolis area. With only dreams left to ever move back to Tennessee, and a wife from Kansas that wont move from Indiana. LOL,, guess i could just leave her here.
I still enjoy the trips back home (to McMinnville) and visiting with aunts and uncles, cousins, though their numbers are dwindling with each passing year. Through illegal immigration, drugs, crime rates, etc, Im not so sure moving back to McMinnville would be an idea for an older person, unless he is well armed cause we dang sure cant outrun em these days. Buying a few acres and a house out in the country, used to always be a dream of mine. but it seems those "loners" wind up being the ones that get beaten and robbed these days by the crack heads and dope addicts. I guess that was inevitable, with the influx of illegal immigrants, decline of moral values amongst kids these days, etc.
Of course now, Id have to hit the lottery to do any of those things Ive dreamed of doing.. so the dream changes to buying a mountain, building a log cabin at the top, and shoot down at anything that comes towards my place.. LOL No roads, so everything would have to be flown in by helicopter. ahh,, such a nice dream. lol.
okay,, in answer to the question at hand,, I am a Southerner, second, American First, and a Bluewater Sailor always.
I moved to Houston, Tx in 1982 for a couple years, with work.. Texans kept talking about Yankees coming down taking their jobs, etc,, and because I had moved from Indianapolis, always included me in their verbal abuse of Yankees.. until,, I told them... I was born in McMinnville, Tennesee, and if it wasnt for us Tennessee Volunteers, you Texans would be speaking Mexican. They decided right then and there that I was a Brother Texican at heart. LOL

Well I can tell you PawPaw your dream of living in the woods and having things flown in is almost how we live. We have dirt roads that when it rains, its like driving on snot. I have had my car in the ditch on its sides several times trying to get in the driveway.
Lucky for me most folks here have tractors. Our trailer we lived in was moved to the top of the hill with a tractor. We don't have fancy permits around here. We have well water that is the best you can drink. We live on top of a hill and have all kinds of wild life running around. We can't get tv reception so have to have satelitte. No dsl or cable connections for the computer. But it is peaceful. We live on 20 acres. We have put in a small garden and its really nice to look out the window to see deer, turkey, raccoons, squirrels, cougars, coyotes, and all kinds of birds.... but we have to travel to see Dr's and do real shopping. We have a city 13 miles from us- but it doesn't have things like the big cities do.
We plan to live here until they bury us. Or if my daughter has her way-- donated to the body farm...........

LoL

funny !
Ok, I don't live in the South, now.
Buut . . . . . . We lived in and raised our family in S. E. Oklahoma. Twenty years down there and our Son, daughter-in-law & two Grandson’s still live on that place. SE Okla. is often called "little Dixie"! (for about 10 yr. we didn't have a neighbor for a 1/2 mile in any direction)
When we built there, starting in 1971 there was no Electricity, no well, no cable or no phone. We had to pay the Elec. CoOp to build a line from the closest power line a mile away.
May I be counted in the South forum?
In the spirit of full disclosure:
Jan and I now live in Colorado Springs, CO.
And our son & his family now have SBC phone service, but it is still on a dirt road.

Moved to Texas when I was 9 mos. old. Grew up there until in the Navy after H.S. in 1969. I counted Texas as my home of record until 1984.
