Running for our Veterans

I would like to take a minute and let you all know that there is a Feller out there that will be running in the NYC Marathon with a special message to all veterans who have served.

Don Lehmer AKA Tink, who is an ex shipmate of mine off of the USS Basilone DD824, and I believe is 58 years old, has been training for the past few months prepairing himself for this endeavor. He says he is confident he will make it all the way, and I certainly wish him the best.

One reason he is doing this is that it has become therapy for him, because as many of you will recall, our ship had a boiler explosion that took 7 of our shimates. I know that this affected him greatly, and he was very lucky to only receive a few burns from the explosion.

Hoping for some recognition for his efforts, the T-Shirt that he will be wearing will have our ships name and number on the front of it and a message of appreciation on the back to all veterans. If you would like to send him a message of support, I am sure he wouldn't mind. His email is [email protected]

It would be nice if others of us could be right along side of him, but unfortunately that just isn't possible for many of us. I wish him the best, that is a very long run...

Ken,
Give him a message from me, tell him we are proud that he still acknowledges his shipmates and honors those who have gone on before him.

who lives in upstate NY.
