For whatever it is worth

Postby paul 47 » Sun Oct 11, 2009 7:05 pm

Tongue in Cheek here. I can still eat a free lunch, and go to my daily, yes daily dr appointment at the Muscogee Creek Nation health center, locally tomorrow. They have taken care of me when the VA would not.

Reason, not saying any should not, but we here do not celebrate tomorrow. I think the Native Americans discovered Colombus, not the other way around. Anyway, just kidding, kinda, and something to think about.

So ,,,,, you have free health care for being on the Tribal Records ( paid for by the US Government ). And are you saying you want free VA health care and compensantion from the VA too ? It comes from the same pot don't it ? I talked to a guy last week that had 2 cards from 2 different tribes , he was 1/16 th. He said he knew of folks that were 1/264 th Indian that had free health care cards in Oklahoma because their family name was on the Tribal Records in Oklahoma.
My point is ,,,,,,,,, wonder what kind of health care might be available to you if Colombus did'nt discover America ? I wonder how Obama counts you ? Healthcare / no Healthcare ? Anyway , just kidding, kinda, and something to think about. I'm 1/8 th. Indian , 8/8 American just like you. Have a nice Holiday go to a parade !!!!

Yep, that is what I am saying. I earned it if we ever get it. Mostly I am saying I would be dead already if I had to rely on the VA. I am 1/4 Creek and 1/4 Cherokee, but the guy did not know what he was talking about. In Oklahoma you can only be a member of one tribe, and have to live in that Nations boundary to receive any help at all.

If it ever happens, tht the VA fesses up and supports us, and I did say us, then of course I would not use both, only one, but if you are questioning if I feel I deserve what we here all are seeking. The answer is hell yes. I did not choose to have a full blood Grandmother that happened. I did choose to be in the US Navy, it was a family tradition and I carried it on.

The health care provided by the Creek Tribe is paid for from Oil royalties, profits on real estate, and a big portion comes into the system from Casino Profits, as well and Gov funds.

We are just talking here not arguing, so If you feel because I have what is really, honestly a hit and miss Indian Health Care, that I am not entiteled to any VA benefits you or others might have earned. I would like to know.

Hey Paul,

What part of Oklahoma are you from? I was born and lived most of my life in Denison, TX. I have an uncle in Lawton and a brother who works at Comanche Casino somewhere in Oklahoma across the border from Wichita Falls,TX.

For what is worth. I would give anything to have your healthcare through the Indian Nation. My private insurance premiums are so darn high. My husband goes to the VA. The rumor is in my family that we have ancestors who are Indian. Could be, I don't know. My family name is so common on the rolls. I will never find out.

Hope you have a good day,
Cindy

Cindy:

I grew up near Durant, Oklahoma, just across the Red River from Denison. I actually joined the Naval Reserve at the Reserve Center in Sherman and attended meetings there for a couple of years.

So I guess we were nearly neighbors!

dhhunt,

Well, I guess you could call us nearly neighbors. I spent a lot of teen years running all over Lake Texoma, the Red River, Durant and even Sherman. I left Denison in 1982 when I remarried and moved to Houston. We are now in Louisiana.

Did you have any relatives in Denison?

Cindy:

No relatives in Denison.

I left Durant in 1969 and lived in Houston 1976-1990 and 1994-2005 when I retired and moved "up North" to Denton in the DFW area. Do you recall the old Naval Reserve station about half way between Denison and Sherman on the east side of U.S. 75? If I recall correctly it was near the TV station. It has been gone for years.

I am from Okmulgee about 40 miles South of Tulsa on US 75. Probably about 100 from Durant. I have lots of relatives in Atoka, go thru Durant and Denision on my Harley real often. I have a good friend in Cumby, Texas, which is about 10 miles south east of Commerce.

My Mothers side of the family are all from Canton, Texas, that is where I finished high school after my Dad passed away. I also have more kin there than you can count.

Gosh, so long ago. I don't remember the Naval Reserve Station. I do remember the KXII TV station, the Perrin Drive-In, the Twin Cities Drive-In movies and Perrin AFB. I guess my mind is foggy. I suppose it is the aging process.

It is nice to visit with people who are familiar with my hometown. The last time I was in Denison, I didn't hardly recognize it. It has changed so much. I've been to Atoka. We used to go to a park called Devil's Den. Can't remember for sure, but I was thinking it was around Tishomingo.

Guess I sounded like it, and believe it or not I appreciated your post. I am not down on Colombus, but I do relate his discovering America, kind of like me buying a new car and driving to dallas, getting lost and winding up in Arizona, saying look what I have discovered. Bad, I know ,relation to a historical event.

However, I will check it out, seems like what I remember from History, he actually found shore in the Carribean someplace, then got directed back to the US mainland. I believe he also was Italian, and it was Spain who financed his adventures, hoping for rewards. I will check that all out and answer you back later with some facts.

However it happened, I do believe it was God's will that folks got directed here. I can not Imagine this world without this great melting pot we have here, of one time oppressed, freedom loving folks, that have congreated in America and made us the best.

I do think for the last hundred years or so, folks that care less than they lead us to believe use the general population of us freedom hungry people to their own advantage. You can find examples of it everywhere. I am not a loner, and I for sure would not want the job of deciding what is the correct thing for the American Citizen

I would like to see Congress, the other leaders, ban lobbiest, and listen to the common folks need, for the Greatest change of ever let us decide in an honest open election decide whom is best for us. There is not a politician in office today, and in the short past, that ever starts his day, saying! I wonder what the folks that elected me to this high office really would like for me to do. He would not last past breakfast.

No person is more important to Americas Survival than it's Veterans. If they can't do anything else for us. We would go to war for America in a heatbeat anyway. Why not put it in their recrutimant brochures, that we will not promise you a thing. You already know you are exspendable in a war environment. If you do make it back, don't expect a damm thing. That would be better than lies. One more thing I bet there is not a Navy Recruiter on this planet , that ever told anyone. Hey don't Join the Navy. Sure we need you bad, but just warning you, if you make it back alive, you will not be helped in any way, if you get sick later on in life from your tour of duty. I could live with that, and if I had been given the chance would have signed that disclamer in a heartbeat.
I have typos here, but for some reason can not correct them, nor view the full post.

Paul , your historys close enough . I've never thought much one way or the other about Colombus , I do know the world was thought to be flat and he was brave enough to sail over the horizion. So in his day ,,,, he was the man.

Oh my, I thought I was probably the only person left who remembers Devil's Den. I went there as a kid. I think it was Pennington Creek that ran through Devil's Den. And it was near Tishimingo. I haven't heard anyone mention that place in over 40 years.

I recall an ice cream store in downtown Denison that we used to visit. Don't recall that name of the store but it seems it was a person's name.

Hello,

The ice cream store was called Ashburns. They made their own ice cream and the best chocolate marhmellow ice cream. I'm not sure if it is still in operation, but it was a family business.

Devil's Den was the best place in the world to play on the HUGE boulders and swim in the creek. We went to Devils' Den all the time in the 50's and 60's. Gosh, I'm old!!
