NEW JERSEY VETERANS

Postby Bill Fryday » Thu Oct 08, 2009 7:23 pm

Hello New Jersey Veterans,

Just by chance, I found the following website from the State of New Jersey. The New Jersey Veterans Affairs Dept. honors Vietnam Veterans with a Medal for their service in Vietnam.

Please check out the website and contact the New Jersey Veterans Affairs office to see if you qualify.

http://www.state.nj.us/military/veteran ... index.html

I think it is wonderful for veterans to be honored by their state for their military service.

My husband Bill recently received a medal for his military service from Gov. Jindal here in Louisiana.

Have a good evening,

Hey Cindy, I truly love their definition of "in country" service! Change a couple of words and it would be a perfect fit for us and the presumptive definition.

Eligibility:
Presented by the State of New Jersey for military service in the South East Asia Theater of Operations from 1960 to 1975.

Criteria:
- Current resident of New Jersey
- Served on active duty in any branch of the armed forces of the United States in Vietnam, Thailand, Laos or Cambodia or the contiguous waters or airspace there of on or after December 31, 1960 and on or before May 7, 1975.
- Received an honorable discharge from such service or currently serving.
- Meet one of the following four "in country" requirements:

(a) attached to or served for one or more days with an organization participating in or directly supporting military operations.
(b) attached to or served for one or more days aboard a United States Naval vessel directly supporting military operations.
(c) participated as a crew member in one or more aerial flights into airspace above Vietnam and contiguous waters directly supporting military operations.
(d) served on temporary duty for 30 consecutive days or 60 nonconsecutive days in Vietnam or contiguous areas, except that this time limit may be waived for persons participating in actual combat operations.

Posthumous - The surviving spouse or immediate family member of any resident of the State meeting the above requirements for a medal and who was killed while on active duty or died after receiving an honorable discharge from the armed forces may apply for a posthumous awarding of the medal.
Joe, USN, VF-151, CAG-5, CVA-41

Vietnam War Veteran, '71-'73, Lifetime Member of Tonkin Gulf Yacht Club, Member Bluewater Navy '70 - '74, Shellback '72.

I have lived the legacy of my military service to my country, Abuse, Disrespect, and Denial.

Joe, I think that by their criteria,Blue Water Guys would certanly meet the requirements for persumptive.
If money is whats holding things up,they should look into the waste going on in the system. For example:They contract out the services of people to provide wheelchaires to those who require one.The rental fee comes out to be many times more than the outright buying of the wheel chair.I know my C-PAP machine cost the VA about $250.00 by them buying so many at a time. The people I got mine from said that my machine would cost about $1400.00 if they sold it out to the public, but because the VA buys the in such quanities and shiped the machine to them for me,it cost just $250.00.
We need to do some checking on this, because if the people who furnish the wheel chairs on a rental basis charges say $30.00 month, for a year, that comes to about $360.00 per year for a $200.00 chair.Plus ant co-pays that may be involved.
This is just a little food for thought, but if they are looking for ways to cut cost, let them look at cleaning their own house, and not deprive the Veteran in the process.Have a great day and God Bless. Jim

Yea, the definition the way it used to be. It would be nice if all states would do this for their Veterans.

Someday when I get the chance, I'm going to try to review each states Veterans website and see if any other state presents medals to their Veterans other than New Jersey and Louisiana. I'm too busy right now contacting legislators to cosponsor H.R. 2254. Texas Representatives is next on my list. 18 from Texas have not signed on yet.

Have a good day.

Cindy,I can tell you now that the state of Montana does not issue medals for the Vietnam Veterans. While our RO and VAMC is better than most, the state has done quiet a bit for the present day veterans but, they are lagging way behind for the older veterans.God Bless. Jim

New Jersey appears to give medals to Vietnam Veterans, whereas, my state of Louisiana gives medals to all Veterans. As long as a Veteran is honorably discharged, war or not, the veteran will get a medal from our Gov. Jindal. That law that was signed last year. Maybe that can be a future mission, to write to the states and see if they can make a law to give Medals to Veterans.

Take care!

They can keep their medals as long as they approve my claim. God Bless Carl and Cindy you have both been through a lot, but don't let Jindal buy a vote for medal.

The medal is from the state, which is more than what the VARO in New Orleans has done for us in the last 4 yrs. My husband Bill finally had a C&P for his Agent Orange claim last week after 4 hard fought years. I guess we will find out someday if he will get service connected. We have been through a lot, but our story is like everyone else's who is fighting the DVA. The way the DVA has treated Blue Water Navy Vietnam Veterans and other Veterans who were exposed to Agent Orange is deplorable.

The Louisiana Veterans Medal is not a guaranteed vote for Jindal. I think the medal was a nice thing for Louisiana to do for Veterans.

Have a good day.
