Payment from VA

Postby pibob » Sat May 30, 2009 3:43 pm

I was doing my monthly checkbook balancing act and when checking with my bank online, I had a deposit made after midnight last night for an odd amount $159.75 which is not what my current disability pays. Anyone else get some extra money? Usually I am paid on the 1st of the month and expect my normal VA deposit to be made on Monday.

Could it be the $250.00 Stimulus refund? Maybe they adjusted it for some reason?

Out of curiosity, does anyone know if that Stimulus Package will have to be reported for additional income for those who are on NSC Pension or SSDI. That would really suck if you "Got It" then they "Taketh Away"

I am on SSDI and it is not reportable. I don't know about NSC Pension. I did get information that you will not get more than one stimulus payment. Only $250 per person. That will by my groceries for about a month. Of course if the price of gas keeps climbing I won't be able to get to the market.

I'm of the opinion if they don't ask, don't tell. I'm fairly certain it is not reportable.

It is not supposed to be reportable.

Well after an hour on the phone, I found out that I had some outstanding Copay's for meds for non-service connected treatment. I had filed a Health Benefits Renewal Form and thought that all copays had been waived. Guess I didn't qualify even though my income is only able2/3's of the financial thresholds for VA Health Care Benefits. Another trip to the local VA Clinic and discussions about the Means test. When they take about 1/3 of your disability check for copays it really places a crimp in your budget planning. Looks like Beans & Franks for a few weeks this month.

No its Beans & Franks in a can. Remember the old "C" rations. We can get 2 cans for 99 cents at the 99 cent stores here. Chili with beans are also 99 cents. Lots of good buys there

What sucks about them taking the money, its never the same amount each month. Carl's SSDI check gets cut each month by the VA for meds. They also charge you about $30.00 for fees that isn't helping to pay down the bill. If your lucky, they send a letter the day before you get your check - telling you how much you will be paying out. Gives you a day to decide if its beannie weenies or sardines for the month.
