Active duty U.S. Navy June 1968 - March 1972. Served on the staff of the Commander, U.S. Seventh Fleet, aboard U.S.S. Oklahoma City (CLG-5) homeported in Yokosuka, Japan, March 1969 - March 1971. The OKCity provided gun fire support to U.S. and ARVN forces from the DMZ to Vung Tau. The OKCity, a guided missile light crusier, was sometimes detailed to provided anti-aircraft defense for U.S. naval forces at "Yankee Station" in the Gulf of Tonkin. In 1980 I enrolled in the Army ROTC program at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock. In December 1982 I was commissioned as a Second Lieuteant in the U.S. Army Reserve. During the next twenty-one years I served with various Army Reserve and Arkansas National Guard units. Branch assignments included Combat Engineers, Chemical, and Air Defense Artillery. A few months after 911 I was ordered to active duty at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri for eighty-nine days. In 2003 I was transferred to the Retired Reserve. In 2007 I had the privlege of serving with the Florida National Guard's Military Honors Program. |
